Tolerance is the quality of perseverance.

The virtue of tolerance is essential in this world of chaos and suffering. The lives of great saints show us this aspect of their character. Our Gurus set great examples of tolerance.

To become a better human, it is important to develop tolerance for others in order that we may exist peacefully with ourselves and the rest of humanity. History has shown us that lack of tolerance causes wars and religious disharmony. Tolerance and forgiveness are Godly attributes and can be practiced by human beings.

The Holy Granth Ji has many verses in regard to this quality:

Kabir ji says: where there is knowledge, there is purity, where there is falsehood, there is sin, where there is greed, there is death and where there is tolerance, there is God Himself

(Shlok Kabir, p. 1372) If one puts the mind under the discipline of the true Guru and imbibes the quality of tolerance, his search is rewarded and he drinks the nectar (Ramkali M 1, p. 932)

Acceptance is another word for tolerance. Our Guru taught us to respect other religion and cultures. They showed tolerance and acceptance in their lives. But they also believed in upholding their ideals and human rights. They only took up the sword when their own people's integrity was in danger. There is a limit to tolerance and acceptance. We need the guidance and Grace of the True Guru to make the right decisions.
