ORDER or HUKAM

Hukam is an Arabic word which means Order or Judgement of God

Guru Nanak Dev ji says: Everybody is under the Hukam of the Lord, none is outside it

(Japji p.1)

This hukam is the overall order of God. This Order is a set of commandments or the Laws of God. These laws are true for all times and work in all three fields namely physical, moral and

spiritual. All living beings are bound by these Laws.

The Hukam of God is always just. The hukam can be identified by Bhaana of the Divine Will. Guru Arjan Dev ji says:

Through His Hukam He creates and dissociates; everything is created and also dissolved. Through His Hukam, he becomes high up and also lowly and also manifests Himself in several ways.

Birth and death occur according to His Order. The planets move according to the laws of God. Those who think that they are in charge and in control of everything are denying God's existence. Not a leaf can move if it is not willed by God. God is not merciless. We are accountable for our good and bad actions (Karma) and are subject to cause and affect. To become a better human one must align their will with the Will of God. By placing full trust in the Divine Will and surrendering selfish desires one comes under His Order.
