ONENESS

Oneness is the quality of knowing and behaving in a manner that all mankind is of the same origin and therefore equal in status.

There is One God. This statement expresses a profound oneness of the human spirit. It means that an ultimate existence pervades all the boundaries of the Universe, and that all people and all things are of one essence. In order to be a better human, we must realize our Oneness. Even though we look different we are all One because we come from the same source. Examples from the holy Granth Ji :

All is God, all is God;

without God there is none (p.485, NamdevJi ).

Guru Gobind Singh Ji instructed us:

Treat all humans as one race.

Kabeer Ji said: From the one light the whole universe came

So who is good and who is bad. ( p.1349 Parbhati Kabir Ji)

Examples from other faiths:

Christianity: There is one God and Father of all, who is above

all, and through all, and in you all.

Judaism: Have we not all one Father? Has not One God created us?

This basic truth must be understood and practiced so we may coexist peacefully in our world. We may accomplish many academic successes, but if we do not understand our oneness, all our efforts are a waste.

Practical Exercise: ONENESS

Remember what our Beloved Guru Nanak Ji taught us:

'Sarbat da bhala mango' - pray for the good of all.

With a sincere heart repeat this prayer for all mankind

''May all beings be happy and content and fulfilled

May all beings be healed and whole.

May all have whatever they want and need.

May all be protected from harm and free from fear.

May all beings enjoy inner peace and ease.

May all be be awaked, liberated and free.

May there be peace in this world and throughout the universe."

Study the charts on oneness and tolerance. Try and memorize at least two pictures that will always remind you to practice this quality.

What can you do to feel part of your community?

Think about how you, your neighbors, your town, your state, your country, your world is part of the entire Universe. Whatever affects you also affects the entire Universe. See how we are all connected to one another!

Think about how beautiful this world would be if all the people loved each other.

That would be like paradise!
