Is something done or performed.

Living beings act in order to fulfill their requirements in relation to time and space. Through the thinking process, one distinguishes between right and wrong, good and bad. The body is the field of actions. We reap what we sow. Actions done in complete secrecy are known in all the four directions. There are countless examples of this in the Guru Granth Ji.

We are cautioned again and again to act in humility, to efface the ego, to work for the good of all.

At the same time, the Granth Ji also says that God Himself acts through us. He is all in all. He accomplishes, destroys, and creates all. Since He pervades all life and matter, He is the real doer. There are numerous references to how He is the one who sings, listens, breathes, and acts through us. A deeper understanding of this leads a human to become more carefree and dependent on God while performing his duties with utmost love and devotion. In order to become better humans, we can rest in the Guru's wisdom and live a more relaxed life. This does not mean that we become lazy and careless.

The saints have instructed us to perform all actions without expectation of any reward or recognition. To perform all work for the sake of love alone. According to the Indian philosophy, action or karma can accumulate further burdens on us if we act with egotistical intentions. Giving charity or doing good deeds to gain importance are not a beneficial actions because of their intent. We were given this mind and body for a very important purpose. Examples from other faiths:

Buddhism: Like a beautiful flower, full of color, but without fragrance, are the fine but fruitless words of he who does not act accordingly.

Judaism: Not learning, but doing is the chief thing.
