Aim means to direct towards a specific purpose.

To become a better human it is essential that one knows what is the true aim of life. According to the Guru Granth Ji the aim of a human is to become like his Creator - Har Jan aisaa chahee-ay jaisaa Har hee hoay. This means that a person of God should be like God.
In order for us to become one with God, we must try to act and think in a God-like manner. We may begin by appreciating a quality of God and then try to bring it into practice. This can be accomplished through sincere service or Sewa towards humanity through a profession.
Contrary to popular belief, the aim of life is not to make a lot of money and fulfill the ego's needs. The media and our present day influences lead us away from the true goal of life. Because of these conflicting messages, most of us are very confused about the purpose of our life.
When we look at the lives of our Gurus and other saints, we find that all of them had one common characteristic: they were all very selfless. They all served others before thinking about themselves. They practiced compassion and sacrificed their personal pleasures to improve the lives of others.
In order for us to achieve oneness with God, we too must put our egotistical desires aside and ask God for guidance. To become like Him we too must practice what other great souls have practiced. The accompanying chart shows how the soul is on a journey towards its true aim. There will be pitfalls on the way, but by keeping the mind in the company of God or practicing the presence of God, we can reach our true goal in life.
